About Me
Hi, I’m Volkan Özçelik. Currently, I’m hands-on working on various aspects of RAN Intelligent Controllers at VMware Telco, which gives me an excellent opportunity to use what I learned about Radio Access Networks a long time ago.
Finally, those wireless and mobile networking lessons I’ve had 20+ years ago at college are proving themselves to be useful 🙂.
So the good thing is, I remember bits and pieces of information from those years. So, when I read a book about 5G or dig into an AI/ML O-RAN spec, I don’t feel like a deer looking at the headlights of a truck. Well, sometimes I do, honestly—but most of the time, I conceptually know what the text is talking about.
The not-so-good thing is, it has been 20+ years since I graduated, so my 5G/Telco memory is a tad rusted, and in those 20+ years, the industry has changed a lot too.
But the good thing is, I am at a perfect sweet spot: I don’t know too much, so I’m not blinded; I can look at things from the beginner’s eye and see where a beginner can struggle. Yet, I know just enough that I won’t be overwhelmed by the sheer information firehose that I have been consuming for a while now.
That’s also why I started this website to share the information I constantly gather. I will be distilling and presenting the whole O-RAN concept more understandably so that you don’t want to throw your laptop out of the window while trying to demystify what an AI interface or an E2 node contains.
